People who work at Silent Voice Canada live in different provinces. Acknowledgements for those provinces is listed below for you to learn more about:

Alberta – Calgary and Edmonton

Edmonton is located within Treaty 6 Territory and within the Métis homelands and Métis Nation of Alberta Region 4. This land is the traditional territories of many First Nations such as the Nehiyaw (Cree), Denesuliné (Dene), Nakota Sioux (Stoney), Anishinaabe (Saulteaux) and Niitsitapi (Blackfoot).

Calgary is located on traditional territories of the Treaty 7 of Alberta, which includes Siksika, Piikani, Kainai, Îethka Stoney Nakoda involving Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Good Stoney bands, and the people of the Tsuut’ina and Metis.

Ontario

Ontario covers traditional territories of many nations including the Mississaugas, Anishnawbe, Wendat, Huron, and Haudenosaunee Indigenous Peoples.

New Brunswick

New Brunswick spans traditional territories of the traditional unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) and Mi’kmaq peoples. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship,” which Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) and Mi’kmaq peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with the surrender of lands and resources but, in fact, recognized Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.

We acknowledge and thank the first stewards of the land and commit to doing my best to be a good steward.  To recognize the land upon which I live and work, and its original peoples is to acknowledge the truth.
