Call for Volunteer Board Members
A community agency where you make a difference!

Silent Voice is a not-for-profit agency that serves Deaf adults, youth, children, infants, and their families, in an American Sign Language (ASL) environment. We are dedicated to improving communication and relationships between Deaf and hearing family members and Deaf and hearing members of our communities.

We are currently seeking committed volunteers with a range of skills for positions on the Silent Voice Board of Directors.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about our mission and values, are team players, collaborative, and committed to participate in Board discussions, committees, and activities.

In addition to those qualities, we are looking for those with specific knowledge and experience in any one or more of the following:

  • Deaf community, Deaf culture and ASL
  • Information Technology (IT)
  • Government Relations
  • Marketing
  • Fundraising
  • Risk Management
  • Finance

The term of office is three years. At a minimum, the Board meets six times per year and in addition, the expectation is that each Board member joins at least one Board committee, participates in initiatives and events.

Focus Group Participants Needed

The Ministry of Community and Social Services would like to better understand how individuals who use Interpreter services are benefiting from these services and what we can do to improve services and supports for those who require them. We welcome you to participate in an upcoming focus group.

When: October 26, 2017, from 5:30-7:30pm. A light meal and refreshments will be served.

Where: Toronto (exact location to be confirmed)

What you might be asked:

  1. On a regular day, what does an interpreter assist you with?
  2. What difference does having access to interpreter services make in your life?
  3. Think about a day when you did not have access to an interpreter. How did you feel? What activities were you unable to do or participate in?

RSVP: If you are interested in participating, please RSVP to REU@ontario.ca or call 416-212-7231 by October 12, 2017, so that we can confirm the number of participants. Details of the location will be shared with confirmed participants.

ASL/LSQ interpretation will be provided and your transportation costs (i.e., public transit, taxi, mileage) will be reimbursed as well as other eligible expenses (e.g., parking, personal support worker if needed). In order to claim your transportation and eligible expenses, you are required to submit your receipts.
